I wrote this one in my head sitting in jail. It wasn't that fucking light-hearted until I recorded it for 'Buku Buttafüko' a couple o' years later and added the keyboard/ kazoo solo. When we were working this one up to play live, we played that solo bit like 20 times in a row, mostly because we were laughing too hard to get through it without a fuck-up.
lyrics
Thousands of square miles of nothingness (dead air, dead air, dead air)
Just give me a War Axe to my brain (dead air, dead air, dead air)
Please end my suffering on this cross-state trek of pain
I-80 is the artery (Ogallalla, Lincoln, Omaha)
Nebraska's life and blood are the wasted zombies
Blank-faced travelers behind dirty windshields, like me
Unseeing as the truckers blow past those who bleed
Please god, get me through this I pray
What did I do to deserve this hell anyway?
Just an innocent mistake, a very wrong turn
And for that do I deserve in this hell to burn?
They love this road, the truckers are the kings of it
They ride tall through this wasteland Nebraskaushwitz
Cruising in this waste of space, but they jam "Further Down the Road"
Please goddammit, get me through this I pray
What did I do to deserve this hell anyway?
Just an innocent mistake, a very wrong turn
And for that do I deserve in this hell to burn?
It's easier at night, searching the dead air for a sign of life
